The Los Angeles Clippers acquire Chris Paul from the New Orleans Hornets

Blogged under Big Clippers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 15 December 2011 at 1:35 pm

The Clippers have acquired 26-year old point guard Chris Paul and two future 2nd round picks from the Hornets for 22-year old shooting guard Eric Gordon, 29-year old center Chris Kaman, 21-year old small forward Al-Farouq Aminu and the Timberwolves’ first round pick in 2012.  Chris Paul played in 80 games (all starts) for the Hornets last year and he averaged 36.0 minutes, 15.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 9.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game.  Paul has now played in 425 games (all starts) in his first six years in the NBA and he is averaging 37.1 minutes, 18.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 9.9 assists and 2.4 steals per game.  Paul will make all of his teammates better.  He has also opted in on his contract for 2012-13 to guarantee that he will be with the Clippers for two years.

Eric Gordon played in 56 games (all starts) for the Clippers last year and he averaged 37.7 minutes, 22.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  He played in 196 games (181 starts) in his three years with the Clippers and he averaged 35.8 minutes, 18.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  Chris Kaman played in 32 games (15 starts) for the Clippers last year and he averaged 26.2 minutes, 12.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game.  He played in 493 games (425 starts) for the Clippers in his 8 years with the team and he averaged 29.7 minutes, 11.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game.  Kaman finishes his career with the Clippers #5 in games played (493), #2 in rebounds (3,018), #3 in blocked shots (707) and #9 in points scored (5,813).  Al-Farouq Aminu played in 81 games (14 starts) as a rookie for the Clippers last year and he averaged 17.9 minutes, 5.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  He does have a nice upside.

The Clippers gave up a lot to get Chris Paul, but they could be better than the Lakers this year.  That’s because they will have a starting lineup of Chris Paul at point guard, Chauncey Billups at shooting guard, Caron Butler at small forward, Blake Griffin at power forward and DeAndre Jordan at center…..that is an impressive starting unit!
