The Los Angeles Clippers buy out Rasual Butler

Blogged under Big Clippers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 28 February 2011 at 4:48 am

The Clippers have bought out 31-year old SG/SF Rasual Butler.  Butler played in 41 games (2 starts) for the Clippers this season and he averaged 18.1 minutes, 5.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  Butler played in 123 games (66 starts) in his two years with the Clippers and he averaged 28.0 minutes, 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.  The Clippers won’t miss Butler too much as he has been nailed to the bench as of late.

DeAndre Jordan is losing P.T. for the Los Angeles Clippers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to Step Up by admin on Monday 28 February 2011 at 12:50 am

22-year old center DeAndre Jordan did a solid job both rebounding and playing defense while Chris Kaman was out of action.  Kaman is back now and the Clippers are starting to cut Jordan’s minutes a bit.  In his last four games, Jordan is averaging 20.8 minutes, 4.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 2.3 blocked shots per game.  Jordan has now played in 59 games (50 starts) for the Clippers so far this season and he is averaging 25.8 minutes, 6.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.7 blocked shots per game.  Jordan is shooting an amazing 67.6% from the floor so far this year but most of his shots are put backs and dunks.  That helps explain the fact that Jordan is only a 45.2% free throw shooter as his range is very, very limited.  Still, kudos to Jordan for a job well done while Kaman was out of action.  Hopefully, he stays focused and playing hard despite having his minutes cut.

Boston Celtics 99, Los Angeles Clippers 92

The Clippers were outrebounded 43-36 and that helped do them in last night.  Randy Foye led the way for the Clippers last night with 32 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals.  Blake Griffin also had a good game with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal last night.  Chris Kaman played 27 minutes off the bench for the Clippers last night and he filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocked shots.  The Clippers are now 21-39 on the year.

Los Angeles Lakers 108, Los Angeles Clippers 95

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game recaps,General by admin on Saturday 26 February 2011 at 3:05 pm

The Clippers only shot 37.8% from the floor last night while the Lakers shot 50.6% from the floor, so it’s no surprise that the Clippers lost last night.  Randy Foye led the way for the Clippers last night with 24 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.  Blake Griffin had his usual 22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocked shot last night.  Chris Kaman pitched in with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocked shots in only 19 minutes on the court.  The Clippers are now 21-38 on the year.

The Los Angeles Clippers deal Baron Davis to the Cleveland Cavaliers

Blogged under Big Clippers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 24 February 2011 at 12:10 pm

The Clippers have dealt 31-year old point guard Baron Davis and a 1st round pick in 2011 to the Cleveland Cavaliers for 28-year old point guard Mo Williams and 30-year old small forward Jamario Moon.  Davis played in 43 games (35 starts) for the Clippers this season and he averaged 29.5 minutes, 12.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.  He played in 183 games (168 starts) in his 3 years with the Clippers and he averaged 33.0 minutes, 14.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game.  The Clippers wanted to deal Davis so bad that they had to throw in their first round pick for this season and that could come back to haunt them down the road.

Mo Williams played in 36 games (34 starts) for the Cavaliers this season and he averaged 29.6 minutes, 13.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game.  He has now played in 515 games (409 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 30.5 minutes, 13.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.  Williams will replace Davis as the starting point guard for the Clippers.  Jamario Moon played in 40 games (13 starts) for the Cavs this year and he averaged 19.1 minutes, 4.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.  Moon has now played in 259 games (150 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 23.4 minutes, 6.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.  Moon will help the Clippers off the bench the rest of this season.

Adding their first round pick (likely to be a lottery pick) is a very high price to get rid of Baron Davis.

New Orleans Hornets 98, Los Angeles Clippers 87

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game recaps,General by admin on Thursday 24 February 2011 at 12:01 pm

The Clippers didn’t play any D as the Hornets shot 51.3% from the floor and it did them in last night.  Blake Griffin led the way for the Clippers in this game with 21 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots.  Randy Foye also had a good game with 15 points, 2 rebounds, 9 assists and 2 steals.  Chris Kaman pitched in with 14 points and 4 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench.  The Clippers are now 21-37 on the season.

Oklahoma City Thunder 111, Los Angeles Clippers 88

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game recaps,General by admin on Thursday 24 February 2011 at 4:25 am

The Clippers never had a chance last night against the Thunder.  Blake Griffin led the way, as usual, for the Clippers last night with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists.  Eric Bledsoe also had a solid game with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals last night.  Randy Foye  and Al-Farouq Aminu each pitched in with 12 points apiece.  The Clippers are now 21-36 on the year.

The Los Angeles Clippers want to finish the season strong

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 22 February 2011 at 9:41 pm

The Clippers started this season 1-13 but since then they are 20-22 which isn’t that bad.  The Clippers are now 21-35 on the season which has them in 4th place in the Pacific Division, 16.5 games behind the Lakers.  The Clippers are #13 in the Western Conference and they are 9.5 games behind the Jazz & Grizzlies for the last playoff spot.  With that in mind, the Clippers just want to finish strongly to build confidence for the future.

BIGGEST SURPRISE:  22-year old shooting guard Eric Gordon has been a decent player until this season.  But, he has taken his game to a new, much higher level this season.  Gordon has played in 41 games (all starts) for the Clippers so far this year in which he is averaging 37.8 minutes, 24.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game.  Gordon gives the Clippers another young star to build the team around along with Blake Griffin.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:  31-year old SG/SF Rasual Butler was very solid for the Clippers last season.  But, his shooting has went South this season and he has been sitting at the end of the bench.  Butler is only shooting 32.1% from the floor, 31.5% from three point range and 69% from the free throw line so far this year.   Butler has now played in 38 games (2 starts) for the Clippers so far this year and he is averaging 18.6 minutes, 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  I don’t see Butler getting increased playing time for the Clippers any time soon.

Los Angeles Clippers 98, Minnesota Timberwolves 90

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game recaps,General by admin on Thursday 17 February 2011 at 8:09 pm

The Clipppers turned up the D last night as they held the Timberwolves to 35.4% shooting from the floor and that was the big reason for the nice road win.  Blake Griffin led the way for the Clippers last night with 29 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 blocked shot.  Randy Foye stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot last night.  Ryan Gomes (18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists) and Eric Bledsoe (10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in 30 minutes) also pitched in with solid games for the Clippers last night.  The Clippers are now 21-35 on the year.

Milwaukee Bucks 102, Los Angeles Clippers 78

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game recaps,General by admin on Tuesday 15 February 2011 at 3:03 pm

The Clippers only shot 37.1% from the floor last night and they were outscored 31-13 by the Bucks in the 4th quarter which helps explain the beating they took.  Baron Davis led the way for the Clippers in this game with 22 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.  Blake Griffin also had a solid game with 19 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal.  Randy Foye pitched in with 16 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist last night.  The Clippers are now 20-35 on the year.
