The Los Angeles Clippers sign Jason Williams

The Clippers have signed point guard Jason Williams. It seems as if the Clippers are collecting point guards after signing Baron Davis and trading for Jason Hart earlier this offseason. 32-year old Williams played in 67 games (53 starts) with the Heat last season and he averaged 28.1 minutes, 8.8 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game. It will be interesting to see if the Clippers might experiment with playing Williams and Davis at the same time with Davis sliding over to shooting guard. Williams has now played in 679 games (649 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 31.2 minutes, 11.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. It will be interesting to see how “White Chocolate” fits in with the Clippers, but, it was smart to add him to the team regardless on what role they have planned for him.

The Los Angeles Clippers acquire small forward Steve Novak from the Rockets

The Clippers have acquired backup small forward Steve Novak from the Rockets. The Rockets have the option of switching 2nd round picks in 2011 for the rights to Novak. 25-year old Steve Novak is a big guy at 6′10″, 220 pounds but he plays a small man’s game as he is a good outside shooter. Novak played in 35 games (0 starts) last season for the Rockets and he averaged 7.5 minutes, 3.9 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.2 assists per game. Novak shot 47.9% from three point range and that has to be the main reason that the Clippers were interested in him. Novak has now played in 70 games (1 start) in his NBA career and he has averaged 6.5 minutes, 2.7 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. He has shot 42.7% from 3-point range in his NBA career which is outstanding. The Clippers made a nice pickup here and if they have a better record than the Rockets in 2011 then they got Novak for nothing.

The Los Angeles Clippers sign F/C Brian Skinner

The Clippers have signed 32-year old Brian Skinner to back up Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby. He played in 66 games (0 starts) last season for the Suns and he averaged 12.8 minutes, 3.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game. Skinner should be able to give the Clippers some defense and rebounding off the bench but if he has to start he’s a pretty limited player. Skinner has now played in 538 games (175 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 18.5 minutes, 4.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. This was a decent signing for the Clippers as Skinner should be able to help out off the bench.
