The Los Angeles Clippers sign G/F Ricky Davis

With Corey Maggette and Elton Brand out of town the Clippers needed a player that can put the ball in the hoop and Ricky Davis definately qualifies. He’s a selfish player on offense as he once shot at the opponent’s basket in order to get a triple double but the league overruled it and he was fined by his team. Still, the Clippers don’t have a great offense so Davis will have some leeway on offense. Davis played in 82 games (47 starts) for the Heat last season and he averaged 36.1 minutes, 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Look for Davis to average close to 20 points a game this season for the Clippers. He has now played in 664 games (333 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 31.1 minutes, 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. This was a good move for the Clippers.

The Los Angeles Clippers trade Brevin Knight to the Jazz

This looks like a money move for the Clippers as Knight is vastly superior to Jason Hart who the Clippers acquired for him. Knight played in 74 games (39 starts) for the Clippers last season and he averaged 22.6 minutes, 4.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Jason Hart returns to the Clippers as he played for them in the past. The 30-year old Hart played in 57 games (0 starts) for the Jazz last season and he averaged 10.6 minutes, 2.9 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.5 assists per game. Hart only shot 32.2% from the floor last season so don’t get your hopes up too high about him. Hart has now played in 297 games (54 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 16.6 minutes, 5.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. This was not a good move for the Clippers.

The Los Angeles Clippers acquire C/F Marcus Camby from the Nuggets

The Los Angeles Clippers have acquired C/F Marcus Camby from the Nuggets for a 2nd round pick in 2010. The Clippers took advantage of the Nuggets’ salary cap situation as this trade should help them a lot. The 34-year old Camby can really help the Clippers’ defense as he is one of the best players in the NBA on that side of the basketball court. The Clippers just need him to stay healthy and help the them dominate the paint when Camby is teamed inside with Chris Kaman. Camby played in 79 games (all starts) for the Nuggets last season and he averaged 34.9 minutes, 9.1 points, 13.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.6 blocked shots per game. The Clippers are expecting a lot out of Camby if they expect him to replace Elton Brand’s offense which I doubt he is capable of. Camby has now played in 695 games (549 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 30.6 minutes, 10.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.0 steal and 2.6 blocked shots per game. This was a great trade for the Clippers.

The Los Angeles Clippers sign Baron Davis

The Los Angeles Clippers have signed point guard Baron Davis to a 5-year, $65 million dollar contract. Davis played in 82 games (all starts) for the Warriors last season and he averaged 39.0 minutes, 21.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 2.3 steals per game. The question here is who will Davis be passing to now that Elton Brand and Corey Maggette have both left town? That will be interesting to see. Davis has now played in 608 games (501 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game. This was still a good signing for the Clippers but they better get some more players to put around Davis.
