Sam Cassell wasn’t happy with the direction the Clippers have been going this season so they bought him out so that he can sign with a contender. All signs point to Boston which is where Cassell wants to play. He played in 38 games this season for the Clippers and he was averaging 25.7 minutes, 12.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He also shot the ball well as he hit 45.5% from the floor and 89.1% from the free throw line. Brevin Knight will take over Cassell’s starting job at point guard for the remainder of the season. Knight has played in 54 games (24 starts) this season for the Clippers and he is averaging 4.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Knight will have to improve his shooting as he’s only hitting 39% of his shots from the floor this season. Dan Dickau will be the backup point guard now with Knight moving into the starting lineup. He has played in 44 games (0 starts) this season for the Clippers and he is averaging 14.0 minutes, 4.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Dickau also hasn’t shot the ball well this season as he’s only hitting 37.7% from the floor.

The Clippers like what they see out of their first round pick, forward Al Thornton. With Elton Brand out all season it opened up playing time for Thornton who will likely be a key part of this team’s future. Thornton has played in 54 games (14 starts) this season for the Clippers and he is averaging 23.6 minutes, 11.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Thornton has hit 43.7% of his shots from the floor, 34.7% from three point range and 72.8% from the free throw line. Look for Thornton’s minutes to continue to increase as he’s played very well as of late.
